Twitter removed 140 character limit for Direct Messages

Twitter has lifted 140 character limit for Direct Messages. Now you can now chat on and on, in a single Direct Message. It was revealed by Sachin Agarwal (@agarwal), Twitter's Product Manager for Direct Messages, in a post in Twitter Blog on 12 August 2015. It is a big step towards making the private side of Twitter more powerful and fun.

Direct Messages allow people to have private conversations about the memes, news, movements, and events on Twitter. Each of the trillions of Tweets shared across Twitter daily is an opportunity for people to start a discussion about what's going on in the world. Due to this reason, Twitter has devised few changes to the Direct Messages in last some months gradually.

Twitter has rolled out this change on Twitter.com, TweetDeck, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for Android and Twitter for iOS apps. Twitterati should note that the latest versions of Twitter apps are required to get the update right away. Sending and receiving DMs via SMS will still have 140 character limit.
